Let's dive in…
Trivia’s:
1. India:
The following are euphemisms in India for what common phenomenon, expressed in different languages?
Marathi: Anda phutla (meaning "the egg has sprouted") or Kawla shivla (meaning "the crow has touched")
Malayalam: Purathakuka (meaning "being out")
Tamil: Nannu vellila irruken (meaning "I am out")
Konkani: Hod zaalya gau (meaning "grown up")

2. General:
In a recent speech, a prominent Indian opposition leader drew inspiration from Lord Shiva to emphasize his party’s courage in facing political challenges. During his address, he invoked several symbolic elements associated with the deity, such as the snake around Lord Shiva’s neck to represent confronting fears, and a specific hand gesture signifying fearlessness. The leader also argued that the trident, another symbol of Lord Shiva, stands not for violence but for non-violence, further underlining his party’s peaceful resistance.
Can you identify this powerful hand gesture that represents courage and fearlessness, often linked with Lord Shiva in Hindu iconography? Why the politician used this gesture?
3. Music:
In 1980, a 15-year-old singer made history by becoming the youngest and first Pakistani to win a prestigious Filmfare Award for her breakthrough song, which was part of a Bollywood film's soundtrack. The song, composed by a renowned Indian producer based in London, became an instant hit, bringing a fresh wave of disco to the subcontinent. This young singer, alongside her brother, went on to release several chart-topping albums that helped shape the pop music scene in South Asia.
Can you name this pioneering pop icon and the iconic track that first brought her global fame?
Fun Facts:
In a remote corner of the Atlantic Ocean, on a Portuguese-owned island, there’s a magical teahouse where tea isn’t just a drink—it’s an experience! Using natural hot spring water, this special tea undergoes a color-changing transformation, shifting from clear to gray, then lavender, and finally a deep purple. The secret lies in the reaction between antioxidant-rich green leaves and the iron-rich water, preventing any bitterness even if it’s over-steeped. It’s like sipping a bit of science and nature in every cup!
Japan’s “Green Newspaper” That Grows!
Japan's Mainichi Shimbun once created a special edition known as “The Green Newspaper.” This eco-friendly paper wasn’t just for reading—it contained seeds of flowers and herbs embedded in its recycled pages!
After enjoying the news, readers could plant the newspaper, water it, and watch it bloom into plants. This innovative initiative was part of a campaign promoting sustainability and green practices, turning an everyday item into a living reminder of the importance of recycling!

Kinhal dolls:
This photo is from my recent visit to the National Craft Museum in Delhi. Kinhal, also known as Kinnal, is a small town in Karnataka renowned for its distinctive wooden carvings, including figures, small boxes, and toys. The process begins with rough carving, after which the surface is smoothed using tamarind seed paste. The finished piece is then painted with lacquered colors, bringing out its vibrant charm.
The museum's collection of wooden dolls features rounded figures inspired by South Indian beauty, characterized by large expressive eyes, long black braids, and ornate jewelry, dressed in the style of a Nayika. These toys and wooden figures were once popular as wedding gifts for brides in earlier times.
